My
name is Kerry Jones, my husband and myself have had boxers as companions
throughout our entire childhood, and 29-year marriage. Fran Jones,
my mother-in-law, has been a breeder for 60 years. She lives with
us, helps to care for and love our dogs, as well as care for our puppies.
She offers her advice and assistance to our breeding program. I can't
remember a time in my life that a Boxer was not at my side. All of
our Boxers to this day are not kennel dogs but loving members of our family.
During the early 90's, I purchased my first Boxer. Cheyenne came
to us from MGM Boxers. Cheyenne gave birth to the mother of my first
homebred champion, CH Pheasant Hollows Arapaho. Trying to learn,
research, read about and study the breed, I bred for a short time with
Richard Tomita of Jacquet Boxers, who has bred over 200 AKC champions.
Some of my best foundation dogs have come from breeding my girls to some
of his champions. Only there a short time, I found myself going into
other directions. I am thankful, however, for all the mentors of
my past, as well as the many breeders I am working with now who continue
to offer their advice and expertise.
Some of the important factors
that I apply to my breeding program have come from years of experience,
based on the knowledge I have learned from other breeders and friends in
the breed, as well as from my own experiences.
First and foremost, the health
and longevity of our breed pays an important factor in how I select perspective
parents for our puppies. This is the most important issue to me.
All parents are screened for congenital diseases, like cardio issues and
thyroid. We want to assure our puppy buyers as well as ourselves
that we have done the best we can to breed long-lived Boxer companions.
The heartbreak of losing a beloved Boxer friend too young is more than
I can bear. I am proud to say that Savhannah, the mother of
Arapaho, is still alive and well at 13.
Secondly, the Boxer temperament,
a very important part of our breed standard, must be maintained.
A playful, child-loving clown, the Boxer is a well tempered, devoted companion.
Lastly, I have thrived to maintain
and improve breed type and conformation by breeding champions that we are
very proud of. I spend hours researching and learning more about
our breed. I am a member of 3 Boxers clubs, and have judged 4 Sweepstakes
and 2 Fun
Matches. I am in the
process of obtaining my AKC breed conformation judge's license.
Breeding Boxers is not my living,
it is my hobby. I have made many friends through my adventures and
half of my champions would not be possible without the wonderful loyal
friends that have bought our puppies, bred to our champions, or co-owned
our girls and have shown them under the Pheasant Hollow name. These
people and myself have become a family, best friends and a team.
Together, we are achieving great things.
My daughter, Allison, is our
handler, and with her help in training and showing our dogs, we hope to
continue to breed healthy, beautiful Pheasant Hollow champions and companions.
We also have dogs participating
in obedience and rally. We also contribute to the New Life Assistance
Program where Boxers are trained for disabled owners. And of course,
many of our dogs are couch potatoes, sleeping on a family bed. Whether
you are looking for a show dog or a great pet we will match you up with
the perfect Boxer.
I am blessed to have been a
part of the wonderful Boxer breed. They have given back to me more
than you will ever know. When I am and grey, as long as I have a
Boxer at my side, I know I will be OK. Enjoy our site, our dogs,
our friends, and our family.
Thank You,
Kerry Jones
